Services

Prepress, printing, binding and finishing — in one building.

Digital presses for short runs, offset when the numbers justify it, and every binding style we quote for done in-house.

Printing

Two presses, and we will tell you which one your job wants.

Digital

Right for a few copies up to a few hundred. No plates to make, so setup is cheap and a reprint costs the same next year as it does today. This is what makes printing to demand possible instead of printing to a warehouse.

Offset

Right once the run is long enough for plate costs to disappear into the per-copy price. Better economics at volume and the widest choice of stock.

Which one?

It depends on run length, page count and paper — not on which press we would rather sell you. Send the numbers and we will say which is cheaper, even when that is the smaller job.

Binding

Every binding we quote for, we do ourselves.

Paperback

Perfect bound — the sections are milled and glued into a wrapped cover. The standard for trade and academic titles, and the bulk of what we print.

Hardcover

Case bound in boards, with or without a dust jacket. Takes longer than paperback because the cases need time to set, and it is worth the wait.

Wiro and centre-pin

Wiro for anything that has to lie flat — workbooks, manuals, scores. Centre-pin (saddle stitch) for thin books and booklets.

Prepress

The stage that decides whether the rest goes well.

File checking

We check bleed, margins, image resolution, embedded fonts and spine width before the job is scheduled — not after it has printed wrong.

Paperless proofing

Fast, secure, browser-based proofing. You approve from wherever you are, and nothing goes on press until you have.

Files held press-ready

We keep approved files ready between reprints, so a backlist title can go from decision to delivery without repeating prepress.

Manuscript security

Staff can print your book. They cannot copy it.

Files sit behind a firewall, on machines configured to print but not to duplicate. If you are handing an unpublished manuscript to a printer you have never met, this is usually the first thing you want to know, so we would rather say it here than bury it in terms.

Not sure which options you need?

Send the page count, trim size and run length. We will come back with a specification and a price.
